What's going on here?
Awesome meals, delivered to your neighborhood for convenient pick up on
your way to get the kids. Insanely delicious, mainly organic, thoughtfully
packaged in oven/freezer ready containers, and prepared by a friendly hand
you can trust. That's what's going on! Think of it as a scaled down personal
chef service, but a gigantic step up from prepared meals from the local
market. I'm sure you are a great cook when you put your mind to it, but
probably don't want to donate that kind of mind power every night. You sure
would like to have a private chef, but in reality don't want to take it to that
level. And there is just something degrading about those pre packed meals form
the store…I know. You may or may not have tried some others…but haven't
found anything that really clicks. Pick me! Pick me! I'm here to fill that in-
between space you really need.
I'm a great cook. I'll just tell it to you straight. No, I didn't go to culinary
school; it just comes naturally. I I'm a creative person and I like working with
my hands. I come from a huge ethnic family of Middle Eastern and
Mediterranean descent whose lives revolve around food. I am the child all the
older aunties love the most because when they come to town I am hunkered
down with them in the kitchen- helping, watching, learning and asking
questions. I have a fine arts degree in drawing and painting from the
Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, where I grew up. That art school
degree won me lots of time and experience in restaurants…naturally. I have
worked in some very fine restaurant kitchens.
What has really shaped my food is my extensive travel and interest in world
cuisine. I have sailed the Atlantic, from Nova Scotia to West Africa (and
everywhere in between) as a ship's cook- provisioning and picking up secrets
from each country. Most recently, I was the Chef and Inn Keeper at the Bay
Area's best kept secret- East Brother Light Station, serving up intimate, multi-
course dinners nightly. Now, I am settled in Marin with my husband and just
want to help busy moms get some great home cooked meals on the table.
How it works
If you are at all interested, please fill out a short survey, there is a link at the bottom.
This will help me work out the details (most convenient pick up day, time and
location, etc…) so I can really tailor this service to a small group of clients'
needs. I will be serving the Tiburon/Belvedere area. Get in on this in the
beginning so you can have the privilege of the first-come first-serve
Here is the gist of it:
Ordering and pick up
I will send out a menu on Monday with what's cooking in my kitchen that
week. (Eventually, I hope to post a couple weeks in advance based on what I
see coming to the farmer's market). You can take the week to think about it,
and place your order no later than Saturday for delivery that following
Tuesday. You will find my car, clearly labeled "Dina's Food" at a specified
time of day, conveniently parked on your way home from getting the kids or
running errands so you can just stop and grab your order for the week. Check
out my sample menu to get a feeling for what I might be offering.
Your may choose to have your meals delivered in nonreturnable containers or,
hopefully, in reusable containers. Soups and stews in a mason jar, grain salad
and side dishes in BPA-free plastic containers and entrees in Pyrex dishes. If you
choose to have aluminum/recyclable containers, there will be a small service
charge. If you want to swap out reusable containers, there is a one time deposit
to cover my costs if you lose, break or decide to keep a dish.
Pricing and payment
OK, the meals are going to be bit higher priced than what you might find the
prepared meals at say, Whole foods or other markets to be. Once you get my
food, you will see that you are not comparing apples to apples! Dina's food is
generously portioned, mostly organic, accommodating to your needs, prepared
and packaged in small batches and truly made with great care and attention. It's
creative, fresh, and delicious whole food.
Now, I haven't worked out ALL the details yet, as I really want to tailor the
service to a small and personalized client base (so make sure you fill out the
survey!). Most likely, I will charge by the meal. To give you a general idea of
what the pricing and structure might look like, check out the sample
As I am just starting out and keeping a small and friendly personal client base, I
only accept cash and personal check…for now at least. So, pay me when you
pick up your food. Just please don't stand me up.
YES! THIS SOUNDS GREAT! I'LL CLICK HERE TO FILL OUT THE SURVEY AND WAIT TO HEAR MORE!
